The job market is getting stronger, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with 24,000 jobs manufacturing added in June and July.
According to a recent article published in Industry Weekly, the overall market added 255,000 new jobs in July, well ahead of forecasts of about 185,000. Manufacturing added 9,000 jobs in the month, and was the beneficiary of an upward revision for June from 14,000 to 15,000.
“Two months of very modest growth in manufacturing jobs is certainly better than negative territory, where we’ve been much of the past year,” Scott Paul, president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, said to the publication. “Now imagine the possibilities for factory jobs if we had better conditions, such as we would have with a robust infrastructure investment. … The next president must make manufacturing job growth a priority.”
