Grease Seals – The Little Known Treasure
When people are evaluating a caster, they look for load rating, overall height, wheel size, wheel type and so on. These specs are very important, but what separates one caster from another? You guessed it, accessories. Did you know that standard casters will probably work for all applications but accessories will make them work better. For instance, the swiveling mechanism is usually the first part of the swivel caster to fail. Grease seals help keep contaminants out of the raceways, which will prolong the life of the caster. Grease seals help keep the grease in the raceways, again prolonging the life of the caster. If you have ever tried to grease a heavy duty caster, you will appreciate the value of a grease seal when the grease actually stays in the raceways.
Remember when specing a caster, grease seals might increase the price up front on the caster but they will also help make them last longer and be cost effective in the long run. Call your customer rep today to see how much grease seals will improve your caster.

The Forgotten Feature – Quality
Have you ever walked up to someone and noticed the expensive looking watch they were wearing and wondered if it was real? It’s very hard to distinguish the fake ones from the real ones just by looking. The best way to find out if it’s real is to see how it performs. Casters are a lot like watches. They might all look the same but they don’t all perform the same. As an example, heat-treating, metal thickness, ball bearing size, wheel material thickness all add strength and quality to a caster and not every caster is equal. The next time you are in the market for a caster, think about performance along with price to find the caster with the overall best value for your application. Then call your E.R. Wagner Casters & Wheels customer rep for that caster application and the quality caster.

When you have a cart with two swivel and two rigid casters this task is very difficult, but now with the ER Wagner Directional-Lock caster, it’s much easier. The Directional-Lock is available on the Medium-Heavy Duty Series that have 4” x 2”, 5” x 2” and 6” x 2” wheels. Call your ER Wagner Customer Rep today at 800-558-0117 for more details.

Thread Guards That Work
Have you ever tried to move something only to find out that the wheels won’t move? The axles have six pounds of string wrapped around them and it’s locking up the wheels. I hope you have a good hour to waste so you can remove all the debris before you can do your actual task. If you had E.R. Wagner Special Thread Guards on your casters, you probably would have been done by now. These special thread guards have three tabs on them that serve a dual purpose. First, they fit around the caster fork to keep the guard from spinning. It is very important that the guards don’t spin, because if they do, debris will get caught between the guard and the leg helping to bind the wheel. Second, the tabs keep the debris farther away from the axle so you can easily cut the debris away. So far, thread guards are the best solution for floor debris and E.R. Wagner makes the best thread guards. If you have an application that requires thread guards or any other application, contact an ER Wagner Customer Rep today.

Another Sign Of The Economy Loosening Up
ER Wagner Casters & Wheels is working on many opportunities in the Computer Cart Field that weren’t there during the past 12 months. In today’s economy, manufacturers look for any sign to show it’s loosening up. Opportunities like this are definite signs. Computer Carts are used in many fields such as; schools, hospitals, libraries, financial, manufacturing and others. The casters used are typically Total-Lock and Directional-Lock casters. When a Total-Lock is engaged, it locks both the wheel from rotating and the swivel from swiveling simultaneously. When a Directional-Lock is engaged, it makes a swivel caster into a rigid caster so you have more control with the steering of a cart. When the Total-Lock and Directional-Lock are both engaged, it creates a solid and stationary working surface. If you have any caster needs such as these or any other needs call your Customer Service Rep at 1-800-558-0117 for a quote today.

POP Displays Use Heavy Duty Casters
Most likely when you think of POP Displays, you think of light duty nylon twin wheel casters. These casters are normally used on a pressed board or a light weight wire stand. We’re here to tell you that heavy duty casters are also used in this industry. For instance, automotive products weigh more than the twin wheel can handle, so the heavy duty caster works the best. More and more you see products in the aisles of major super stores because they want to display as much product as possible. These stands need to be mobile in order to change with new promotions. Next time you’re in your favorite super-store look down and don’t be surprised to see big casters taking the place of small ones. For all your casters need contact the ER Wagner Casters & Wheels Office at 1-800-558-0117.

Is This A Sign Of Recovery?
One of E.R. Wagner Casters & Wheels’ biggest customers has recently entered a large blanket order for product. This home improvement customer was like most companies these days in that they have cut back on production because of the slower economic conditions. Their orders with E.R. Wagner were way off compared to orders before the recession. If their products are starting to sell, this must mean that the private sector is starting to spend money on home improvements. We consider this to be a sign of the easing of the recession and think that this trend will start to creep into other sectors. Companies will need product fast when the recovery takes effect, so call us at 1-800-558-0117 for pricing and favorable lead times for all your caster needs.

New Application For Gate Casters
Have you ever heard the old saying, “there is more than one way to skin a cat"? When it comes to casters, that certainly is the case. ER Wagner Casters & Wheels created a whole new market for our Gate Caster. Typically, a Gate Caster is spring loaded and used to prevent the end of a gate from dragging. One of our customers was looking for a way to mobilize their jet engine stands. ER Wagner helped to design a stand that our Gate Caster would fit into to provide mobility. When empty, the stand will move freely. After the jet engine is placed on the stand, the casters retract making the stand stationary. If you have an application requiring mobilization, contact ER Wagner Casters & Wheels at 1-800-558-0117 to see what we can do for you.

New "Navigator Wheel" Developed
E.R. Wagner Casters & Wheels has developed a first of it’s kind “obstacle & impact absorbing” wheel appropriately called “Navigator Wheel”. Unlike other standard wheels, these patented wheels have a unique internal suspension. Inside the hub of the wheel are load rated springs that reduce the pushback effect of the wheel as it impacts objects such as doorjambs, cords, and carpet divider strips. The unique suspension allows the cart to transition over the rough terrain with ease, while protecting the load of the cart. The wheel size is 6” x 2” and is available with either a gray thermoplastic rubber or a red polyurethane tread. These wheels carry a load rating of up to 300 lbs. and are equipped for a ½” axle and are interchangeable with most industry standard 2” wide heavy duty casters.

These wheels are used in many markets, including: Food Service Industry, as well as the Healthcare Industry, on Crash Carts, Code Response Carts, Anesthesia Carts, Central Supply Carts, Hospital/Service Carts, Silverware and Tray Carts, and more. This wheel is also being specified in the General Material Handling Industry on products like Mobile Tool Boxes, Utility Warehouse, Carts and Racks, Dollies, Trucks and Hoppers, Platform Carts, and Utility Carts.

ER Wagner Casters & Wheels Business Unit Introduces a New Spring Wheel Caster
E.R. Wagner is pleased to announce a new Patented Spring Wheel Caster to add to the line of heavy-duty casters presently offered. Unlike conventional shock absorbing casters, the shock absorbing mechanism is in the wheel with the improved design; instead of in the caster rig which allows this design to actually climb over obstacles on a floor, door jams, or materials left on floor surfaces. Current wheel options are Thermo Plastic Rubber (TPR) and Polyurethane (PU) and are available with a 6” x 2” wheel size. The Thermo Plastic Rubber tread has better gripping tendencies and provides a softer ride and the Polyurethane tread will have a longer life span in high performance applications. Both casters provide a load rating of 200 pounds per caster standard, but can be adjusted using different suspension options. The wheel is sold separately which allows current casters to be retrofitted with this latest development in shock absorbing caster efficiency. This Spring Wheel design is available in both the swivel and rigid rigs and an optional pinch style brake is available for the swivel caster. This caster is an excellent fit for any application where shock absorbing and traversing obstacles are a main issue.

New Product at ER Wagner Casters & Wheels
Two of the Core Values at ER Wagner Casters & Wheels are Customer Satisfaction and Exceeding Customer Expectations. Over the coming months, we will be showcasing new products that are a result of listening to our customers requirements and desires.
Our first installment is what is commonly referred to as an Appliance Caster. This caster is mostly used on refrigerators, freezers, and other various large, heavy, bulky type appliances. Simply remove the old glides or levelers and insert the new casters. The appliance will move easier when cleaning floors or relocating the appliance. The leveling stem is used to adjust the height of the appliance in the case of an uneven floor.
This appliance caster design is comprised of two rollers that cover the entire width of the caster and are spaced to the ends of the caster in the other direction to create maximum load distribution. It has a leveling stem that is 5/16” – 18 x 7/8”. The caster includes a leveling nut and is typically sold in packs of six. This caster can also be bulk packed for customers requiring larger quantities.
Due to the mobile lifestyle of today, and the design to update and modernize places like the kitchen, this caster will allow easy movement of those bulky appliances. The unique design also adapts to other uses like, trunks, shelving, plant stands, and racks in homes and garages that need to have mobility with a lower profile. The 250 lb. load rating for each caster makes this product a must for many bulky home and commercial applications. Call your local E.R. Wagner representative for more information.
